Take a dose of klezmer, a pinch of jazz, a dash of Balkan and a touch of gypsy, et voilà, the Amsterdam Klezmer Band's recipe is complete. Brass, double bass, accordion and drums support each other with pulsating grooves full of subtle yet raw energy. They like to make the audience sweat, but also make them dream with soulful laments. In 1996, the Amsterdam Klezmer Band started out as street musicians, now performing internationally as an acclaimed band with a rock-solid live reputation. Throughout this time, the band has managed to stay on the radar and tour all over the world. Their impressive tour list now includes well over 1500 shows. They have built up an audience of connoisseurs who have loved them for many years, and there is always a young audience to join them. Their music inspires fellow musicians from Latin America to Russia, resulting in colorful AKB song covers that can be found on Youtube. AKB revitalizes the klezmer sound by incorporating contemporary styles and techniques into the mix. Balkan and oriental music are gratefully used as key influences. The band manages to keep their music fresh, haunting and often very danceable wherever they take the stage.
